Blue Pottery Mandala
Blue Pottery Mandala
This mandala is inspired by Blue pottery from Jaipur, something I grew up with . Blue arrived in India during the Mughal period, coming from Persian and Islamic influences, flourishing under the patronage of Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II in the 19th century.
The Jaipur artists indigenized Blue Pottery through designs drawn from Indian life like Indian animals, Hindu deities, Indian human figures, features of Indian palaces etc. The blue glaze on the pottery was developed by Mongol artisans who combined Chinese glazing technology with Persian decorative arts, an example of amalgamation of cultures .
